Further to our previous posts and article by Luke Elford in Propel Hospitality (see links below) regarding digital identification, the Government has supported plans to allow digital ID cards to be produced by individuals for age verification purposes, when purchasing alcohol from licensed premises.
The proposed Data Bill, which is currently under review by Parliament, will enable digital identity services to seek certification and display a trust mark on the Gov.uk register. Retailers and landlords will be able to verify ages using QR codes or similar technology. Whilst there is a push for a digital solution, traditional ID documents will still be accepted.
